First Lesson

Today we made a preliminary film to give us a rough idea on what we would be working on throughout this year. We filmed and started to edit a short film, which consisted of a shot reverse shot and a reaction shot. The plot of the film was an Australian was trying to smuggle fruit into Australia but gets caught.

My job on this task was to be the camera man and director. I also helped with editing as I have had editing experience and I had to help my peers as some of them have had no experience with IMovie. I placed the camera on the tripod and in order to set up the camera correctly there is a bubble that has to be in the centre of the circle in order to show that the camera is well balanced and is correctly in place in order for the shot to be at its best quality.

I directed both actors what to do, for example I told Izzi who was the security guard to show anger in her face as she was angry at the fruit smuggler. I told Jack to show a scared and worried face to show that he is in trouble and has done something terribly wrong.

After filming a few shots, we then rushed back to the Media classroom in order to start editing out movie, we used IMovie. It took me a few minutes to show everyone the basics of editing, for example trimming clips, getting rid of background noise and detaching audio in order to give them a rough idea on how to edit for future projects. Overall I thought it was a successful lesson.
