RESEARCH: MARC RIBOUD PHOTOGRAPH (REPRESENTATIONS)

This photograph is an extremely powerful photograph has it has many different representations. In the Photograph we can see a young women holding a flower almost pleading for something. Due to the soldiers holding the bayonets the audience can only presume that the women is pleading for a non-violent and peaceful world, as symbolised through the colour (White) of the flower the women is holding. White flowers are ideal when you are looking to communicate that wonderful combination of elegance and innocence, therefore connoting the fact that the women wants a peaceful world. Not only is she holding a flower but she is covered in flowers due to the clothes that the women is wearing, this only emphasises the innocence she has and the peace that she wants in her life. Also there is a contrast in colours between the soldiers and the young women. The soldiers are dark and black whereas the women is in white. This connotes a sense of good vs evil into the image and also the fact that there is more than one soldiers makes the young women feel isolated and outnumbered which makes he position even more inferior to the soldiers.

Roland Barthes

Roland Barthes was a french semiotician. A semiotician is the study of signs and symbols. Barthes has given us an example of an advertisement to represent the idea of semiotics. The advertisement for Panzani shows the idea of semiotics as there
are many different connotations and denotations that can be seen in this image, such as the colours green, red and white which represent Italian food.

THE BRIEF

I am doing the video brief:

Main task: the titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes.

All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidate(s), with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source.

PLANNING: PRELIMINARY EXERCISE

Continuity task: filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room, sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom she/he exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180% rule.

Preliminary Exercise
In the last couple of lessons I and 3 other people Matt, Josie and Callum Gethin-Barkway created a short film in order to learn the basics of filming and editing. When filming we used the technique shot reverse shot as it was an essential part to the Preliminary exercise.
The plot was a man trying to smuggle fruit into Australia but the Australian security guard was not allowing it. We edited the film on Imovie, we tried adding a variety of different sound effects such as footsteps but unfortunately it did not fit.

We imported the footage from the memory card into iMovie and then placed them into the movie and trimmed each clipping order to remove any unwanted footage. I removed all background noise as we didn't need any of the background noise as it was just people muttering. I was the camera man and was the main editor in this exercise as everybody in my group didn't have any experience with filming and editing however I did, So I had to help them work out the basics and learn how to use a camera and iMovie.

Creating a Trello Acount

Today I decided to create a Trello account. I did this in order to make sure I know what work is due and
when to complete it for. This is effective as it allows me to not forget any work, so that I complete everything in time. It also helps me organise my work as it tells me what work has to be completed. There are two sections with Trello which is the 'To do' and 'Done' sections, When i have work to complete I place it in the 'To Do' list but once I have completed it I move it to the 'Done' section. You can also design your Trello in order to make it more interesting, you can change the background colour and you can also use colours on the labels if you decide to colour code your work into different categories. You can also pay for additional feature these are called Trello Gold and Business Class, this allows you to add photos and add patterns and textures. I feel as though this is going to be a very useful feature for me as it keeps me extremely organised.
